Bog Plants
Siberian Iris and Spadderdock
Though most are not grown for their flowers, some bog plants offer help for
those unable to site their pond in sufficient sunlight for the majority of water
lilies. A POND is not an essential feature of the bog garden, although its
presence is to be desired when you can use the overflow to feed a marsh. It
is essential, that the soil of the marsh garden be kept in a moist, swampy
state through out year. The site of the bog garden must, naturally, be
low-lying and where the surface drainage will naturally collect.
Key Benefits
- Some plants can tolerate as little as three hours of direct sunlight.
- Some grow best in constantly moist to soggy soils
- Some actually grow in standing water
- Many of the bog plants can be used in areas surrounding a pond
